Topic: Poetically Hungry

Welcome Santa Fe! Welcome to anyone who comes to read this. I am most grateful to join the bloggers who will be writing here at SantaFe.com. Poetry condenses stories from everyday experiences to deep, and occasionally profound insights. So lets share our conversations in poetic verse. I envision many folks sending in poems, and I have a few more ideas up my sleeve to create lots more participation.
If you are a poet, or have had a favorite teacher who loved poetry, please send me examples of your thoughts often. Please invite those teachers to congregate here. If you are sending poems, also include permission to publish on this blog. Thanks.
Hungry. Hunger takes many forms. First, the hunger experienced by low income people, senior citizens, single mothers and their children, and the homeless fills the air continually. Indirectly we all share those pains and anxieties. Hence, as a theme here, please remember all the hungry throughout New Mexico. Donate to Food Depot often, even if only $1.00 at a time. Donate to your church programs that feed the poor. On occasion take someone homeless or in need out to breakfast or lunch. Let me know about your adventures.
Poetically Hungry includes both our random food hungers, (and the emotional baggage we may carry with them) and the hunger for poetry of the world and soul. We crave more than food to expand our well being. Poetry inspires. Poetry nurtures and comforts us. Poetry captures injustice and other realities oft swept under carpets. Poetic voices open heart and mind to our world past present and future. Let verse creative challenge and feed us.
Please join me here often. Leave your comments too. Introduce me to fine local poets. Also I encourage you to experiment with your own poetic hunger. Need a way to stimulate ideas? Go to any of your local thrift stores and randomly purchase a book of poems. Open Hands, Open Paws, The Hospice Thrift Store, and What the Cat Dragged In often have collections of poetry for sale. Begin by reading a poem a day. I declare this a perpetual season for feasting!
