    Topic: Times Are A-Changin'

First of all, congratulations to SantaFe.com – the first comprehensive website which includes information about all aspects of Santa Fe life.  Hats off to their hardworking crew!

At first, I offered to write a blog on ‘Education’ – which would cover what’s happening in education in Santa Fe, and I thought that would include visits to the schools, coverage of the different schools, interviews with district administrators, evaluation of progress (or lack thereof), test scores, parent involvement, registration rates, attrition, etc., but it was a trip to New York City for my daughter’s graduation  (a BFA in Creative Writing) that reminded me that I would prefer to have more open possibilities in terms of what I would cover in my blog.  I really didn’t get excited about sticking to one particular topic.

Then I started thinking about writing, in general, and all the myriad of topics one can write about, and it seems that SantaFe.com is open to many of them: art, politics, education, social scene, gender issues, animals, building, current administration, sports, weather, and the pending Apocalypse described in 2012 prophecies.

Then, when I was in NYC, my eldest daughter, Maggie, kept reminding me of the major ‘shifts’ that were going on.  When I would say something or make an observation, she would say, “That’s just part of the shift, Mom….”

Now I am thinking, maybe that’s what I should use as the topic for my blog – because if, in fact, we are undergoing major shifts right now (and we are) in politics, weather, governments, consciousness – that would be a great thing to observe and cover.

That’s it, then!  Welcome to “Times are a-changin”– written by Lynn Atkison, observer of all things shifting in 2011.  If you have any interest in sharing some of your own ‘shift’ stories, please send them to:  lynn.atkison@gmail.com

Meanwhile, stay tuned next week when I cover the first of many changes that I am witnessing in Santa Fe.
