Kris Swedin is a consultant on economic development initiatives. She works with Creative Santa Fe, a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening Santa Fe’s creative economy.

Swedin worked in government, public policy, and education for 25 years. She served as Chief of Staff at Santa Fe Community College from 2006 – 2008. She worked to make the college more responsive to the workforce training needs of the community especially in renewable energy programs, healthcare, and the creative industries.

Swedin served as the Director of the Community Economic Development Division for the City of Santa Fe from 2004 - 2006. In that role, Swedin was responsible for creating the implementation goals, action plans, strategies and budgets behind a five-year economic development plan for the city.

Swedin worked in the Clinton Administration in Washington, DC as Assistant Administrator for Congressional Affairs and Chief of Staff at the US Small Business Administration. She also held various positions in the US Senate and US House of Representatives and raised record sums of money for candidates running for public office.

Swedin holds a bachelor of arts in English from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD and a master of arts in international commerce and policy from George Mason University, Arlington, VA. She will earn a creative writing certificate from SFCC in December 2011.
