Kathryn M Davis, art historian, writer, editor and curator, is an Americanist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A writer of art criticism for local and national publications, she is owner/president of ArtBeat Associates, an independent organization for cultural tourism. She has taught art history—from survey courses to topics including Women in Art, Chicano Art History, Art Since 1945, and A History of Art Criticism: From Greenberg to Hickey—at the College of Santa Fe, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and Santa Fe’s Center for Contemporary Arts, where she worked as their Media & Outreach Manager. Davis currently teaches at Santa Fe University of Art and Design. She is a museum and independent curator; and has lectured and led art tours for institutions including SITE Santa Fe, the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco, the Smithsonian Institution, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Newark Museum, the Theatre Development Fund, and Exploritas.
Davis holds an MA in the Art of the Americas from the University of New Mexico, awarded in 1998. She has over two decades of experience in the field of modern and contemporary art theory.
Prior to working in the field of contemporary art, Davis was a waiter extraordinaire, serving foodies at Café Escalera, Santacafé, and Comme Chez Vous, among other fine dining establishments. She continues to love to eat exceptionally prepared, seasonally fresh foods.
