My mixed media art and jewelry speak to the soul - they are intimate, human and earthy. Intricate layers of paint and wax meld with found objects, creating visual worlds of depth and texture. Dried roots, leaves, flowers and seeds reflect the passage of time and mirror ones own transition of death, renewal and rebirth.
I think organic matter is stunning and marvel at their interior dimensions and transparent qualities. I have fun collecting natural objects or rusted items with unique patterns and patinas to stand alone or mixing materials to create something interesting.
Originally from Spokane Washington, I grew up doing creative projects and harvesting the family garden. Studying non-Western art and indigenous art in addition to independent studies in ancient symbols and religions inspired my artistic expression. I moved to New Mexico in 1996, captivated by the art, culture, landscape and healing community. My first earth art project was here in Santa Fe, where I built two archways for Guadalupe Fine Art’s Dia de Los Muertos show. I am interested in continued exploration of earth art and creating installations, in addition to traditional exhibitions and expanding my online presence. I have volunteered for organizations such as Guadalupe Fine Art, Recycle Art Santa Fe, the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market and Earth Walks for Health, in addition to teaching art to youth. Recently, I volunteered to teach Santa Fe Girl Scouts a recycle art project.
I believe that art is a mirror into the self and a tool for transformation. Art allows one to express what is formless and make it tangible.
