A few years ago, after nearly 25 years in Los Angeles working as an edtorial illustrator and designer, I decided to make the move to my favorite spot, Santa Fe. Once there, a casual functional pottery class turned into an obsession. Now I mainly do handbuilt, one-of-a-kind functional earthenware, hand painted with underglazes. I do fun and whimsical images: cats, dogs, birds, fish, goats, desert scenes and more. My work is for sale in several venues around the state and in Arizona and Wisconsin, on etsy.com, or you're always welcome to make an appointment to visit me in my studio. I'm also available for freelance print design and illustration, custom pottery, and have recently won awards locally for photography as well as participating in art and ceramic shows around the state.
My background: I was born in Chaguaramas, Trinidad, British West Indies, and lived in Washington D.C., Tennessee and Ohio before my parents settled in the Los Angeles area. Interested in art from an early age, I attended the University of California at Irvine as a Fine Arts major, studying with such icons as Ed Moses, John Mason and Vija Celmins. A few years after graduating with honors from UCI, I attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena as an illustration major. Then I made my living as an editorial designer and illustrator in Los Angeles (clients in LA included the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, LA Weekly, California Apparel News, Los Angeles Times and Animation Magazine) until my move in 2004 to Santa Fe, At the moment I have four cats (my models), and hope to return to painting and printmaking eventually as well as continuing to explore the possibilities of ceramics.
