Location, location, location. Even a jaded local like myself has to admit that this town has as many venues in which to hold a wedding as there are places to view the sunset. When it comes to locations, in fact, Santa Fe has no lack of spectacular settings. As Greene tells it, however, choosing the location comes down to the personality of the couple and what they really want in a setting. Sounds simple, doesn't it? Almost peaceful, really.

Getting a marriage license is simple in New Mexico. Just pony up 25 bucks at any county clerk's office in the state, and you are ready to get hitched. And that's bucks as in cold, hard cash. Clerks' offices want their payment in dollars, not with checks or credit cards.
The state doesn't require blood tests or waiting, but both the bride and groom must show up in person to get the license. Each needs a photo ID -- a driver's license or passport will work, but an original birth certificate can be used in a pinch. Each also must provide proof of a Social Security number.

Most of us are delighted to see a tiny flower girl and ring bearer walking down the aisle ahead of the bride. But incorporating children -- whether in the wedding party or as guests -- takes a bit of planning.
Communication is key, according to Amelia Gonzales, wedding planner for Southwest Occasions. She recommends getting the bride and groom to be specific about their vision for the event. "Some parents really want kids there, and others may need some adult time," she said.

Brides around the country might be shopping for the latest designer style, but in Santa Fe, "unique" is the word.
"People here are independent spirits," said designer Laura Sheppherd, of Laura Sheppherd Salon-Couture. "For our area, there's not anything traditional. People are devising their own ceremonies. There's no set thing any longer."
"What I see is a trend away from the over-frilly and the overrevealing," said designer Lily Falk, of Lily of the West. "No fluffy stuff."
