First Lady Barbara Richardson today announced that she will be hosting the 8th Annual First Lady's Bowl for Kids' Sake on April 10, 2010 in Pojoaque. This annual campaign by Big Brothers Big Sisters is an effort to raise money and awareness for matching children in our community with caring, committed, carefully screened adult mentors.

This is the 8th year that the First Lady has participated in the Bowl for Kids Sake, raising nearly $250,000 since 2003.

Salvatore Scibona Returns to Santa Fe

St. John's College is honored to present a literary afternoon with Salvatore Scibona, author of the critically acclaimed debut novel, The End -- a finalist for the 2008 National Book Award - and a 1997 graduate of St. John's College in Santa Fe.

Salvatore Scibona's reading will take place on Sunday, April 11, 2010 in the Great Hall, Peterson Student Center at St. John's College. The reading begins at 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception for the author and lecture attendees.

What Lies Beneath the Snow

Somewhere in the ground, under the foot of snow that still covers our yard, are hundreds of bulbs that Charles and I planted this fall. That at weekend in October, before the trees had lost all their leaves, before we put away the barbecue tongs and rolled up the garden hose, planting daff odils, tulips and grape hyacinths didn’t require a leap of faith. It was just one of those things we do sometimes in the fall, like freezing chile and picking raspberries at the Salman Ranch. Bulbs are kind of a gardener’s savings plan: you put them in the ground, wait several months, and collect the payoff in the spring with compound interest.
