Though the Bataan Death March occurred nearly sixty years ago, it is remembered and memorialized in many ways in New Mexico, including a bridge (Carlsbad), a statue of American and Filipino Survivors (Las Cruces), a highway (Route 70 through Southern New Mexico), a park and monument (Albuquerque), and an annual marathon race (White Sands). In Santa Fe, The Bataan Memorial Building served as the state capitol from 1900-1966, and The Bataan Memorial Military Museum and Library serves as a learning center that is dedicated to the preservation of military history.

2010 marks Santa Fe's 400th Anniversary, making it the second oldest city and the oldest capital in the U.S. The Native Americans first called this spot by a river home thousands of years before the Spanish discovered the area. America's expansion west brought more influences as East-Coast artists came to town in search of new inspiration. Today the city is an international art market filled with the work of artists of every type including American Indian, Spanish Colonial, and contemporary.

Late last year, Santo Domingo Pueblo's tribal council quietly, and unanimously, decided to change the pueblo's name.
The traditional community, about halfway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque, is now known as Kewa Pueblo.
The name change was disclosed at a meeting of the All Indian Pueblo Council in January, according to the Alvin Warren, secretary of the state Department of Indian Affairs.
