The City of Santa Fe, Santa Fe Police Department and Santa Fe Fire Department released a list of road closures, detours and public safety information for the evening of Aug. 29th due to the burning of Zozobra at Fort Marcy Park.

New this year, the area of the Cross of the Martyrs will be closed to the public and strictly patrolled by police personnel. Grant Street will also be closed at Paseo de Peralta. Traffic from the Santa Fe Community Convention Center parking garage will be allowed to travel westbound approximately 30 minutes after the burning.

Anyone who lives in the areas of the Zozobra road closures must have a pass to enter those neighborhoods after 5 p.m. Passes can be obtained through the Zozobra website or by calling (505) 428-9013. Passes will also have maps attached outlining detour routes.

Also new this year, following the burning traffic traveling south on Bishops Lodge/Washington will turn left on Paseo de Peralta and will be allowed to travel eastbound only. Traffic traveling south on Old Taos Highway will turn right on Paseo de Peralta and travel westbound only.

Just like last year, pedestrian and vehicle traffic is not allowed on Artist Road starting at 5 p.m. from Fort Marcy Park east to Avenida Primera South. Pedestrians are also prohibited from camping out along the road to view the show.

Also Old Taos Highway will be closed starting at 5 p.m. from Rosario Boulevard north to Loma Entrada. Detours will be set up along Paseo Corto and Paseo De La Cuma. Pedestrians are prohibited from camping out in this area as well.

No motor vehicles will be allowed north of Paseo de Peralta or south of Murales Road on either Old Taos Highway or Bishops Lodge Road. Rosario Street between Griffin and Old Taos Highway will also be closed to motor vehicles.

The following detours will aso be clearly marked: Motorists driving south on Bishops Lodge Road from the Encantado area will be detoured at Valley Drive to Vallecita Drive to Gonzales Road to Hyde Park Road.

Motorists driving south on Old Taos Highway from the Encantado area will be detoured at Rendon Road to Paseo de la Cuma to Old Taos Highway to Paseo de Peralta.

If residents need medical attention the Santa Fe Fire Department will have medic stations located behind first base from 8 a.m. until the end of the event. There will also be a medic station at fire station 1 and four roaming medic teams on the field during the event.

Remember, Santa Fe Trails busses are free the night of Zozobra. Parking is also available at all municipal parking facilities for $5. If you are planning to park at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center underground parking garage, located at 119 S Federal Pl., expect delays while exiting the parking garage as there is always a large number of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in this area following the event.  In the interest of public safety, Parking Division personnel will be on duty directing traffic and quickly assist vehicles exiting the parking garage.

Prohibited Items from the event include: weapons of any kind including guns, knives or other weaponry. No marijuana, illegal narcotics, or banned/illegal synthetic substances. No alcoholic beverages or glass containers either open or unopened. No open containers of any kind. No tents, tables or metal framed large lawn chairs. No pets with exception of service aide animals. No laser lights allowed. No explosives, fireworks or hand held sparklers. No large umbrellas. No metal cutlery (plastic is ok). No unauthorized vendors with their own merchandise.
