Wild West Day Community Event
Wild West Day is built around the 100 piece installation, "Buffalo Bill and the Indians" by artist Thom Ross. Each piece in the installation is constructed out of a 5' X 10' sheet of plywood and is meticulously painted. The last time this installation was displayed (2008 in San Francisco) it attracted more than 40,000 visits.
In addition to the art installation, Wild West Day will feature stagecoach rides, practical and trick lasso demonstrations, horse back rides, antique black smith demonstrations and live music. The headline band is Byrd and Street from Austin, TX. Local bands The Whalers and Half Broke Horse will also be performing. Food vendors and a beer garden will be part of the festivities.
Simultaneous events include:
• The Wild West Shoot Out Horseshoe Tournament presented by City Different Events to benefit Bienvenidos, a 501-c-3 that works to prevent hunger in Santa Fe (registration begins at 8 am).
• Opening Reception for the western art exhibition "Over El Dorado" in the La Tienda Exhibit Space
• Preview Gallery for the Eldorado Studio Tour
