Some people may look at an empty chair and be provoked to action, others may simply regard the chair as a beautiful object, or a place to park and be comfortable. Chairs have been in use for thousands of years, and have evolved from thrones for royalty to everyday objects for the masses. In art, chairs have been the focus of works by countless artists, from Van Gogh to Warhol and beyond. Axle Contemporary presents artwork related to the chair by four local artists: Abraham Gelbart, DeeAnne Wagner, Don Kennell, and Scuba.
Design Lab is a juried exhibition presenting new ideas for domestic living. This includes the innovative use of materials in furnishings and interior and exterior spaces, new furniture concepts, new proposals for domestic rituals and sustainable energy solutions. This exhibition opens at the same time as Art of the Chair, inside, at Zane Bennett Contemporary Art
