From City of Santa Fe News Release - Tien Lung Kung Fu and Fukien Shaolin Tai Chi classes with Sigung Mark Thorson, a seven-time Florida State Champion and five-time International Champion are beginning January 10 at Ft. Marcy Sports Complex.

Tai Chi is an internal style of slow flowing movements with health benefits including increasing strength and range of motion of joints, greater leg and knee strength, flexibility, reduced stress, and improved immune function.
Tien Lung Kung Fu: Wednesday 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Friday: 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Saturday: 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Northern Shaolin Five Animal Kung Fu. The techniques are derived from the five animals: The Snake—suppleness, speed and accuracy; the Tiger—tenacity and power; the Crane—grace and self-control; the Leopard—speed and strength; and the Dragon—knowledge and power.
All classes are $4 and $2 for seniors.
About the Instructor
In 1972 at the age of 17, Sigung Mark Thorson started his training in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, Pa Kua and Tai Chi with Master Chen Yu Lung. He was the first non-Chinese student accepted by Chen. During his 30+ years training in the martial arts, he studied various styles including Choy Li Fut, White Lotus and Choy Yen Pai before finding the family of Pai Lum. Under the direction of Grandmaster Bill Gregory he achieved a Fifth Level Black Sash and his Masters Level.
Thorson is a certified instructor of the World White Dragon Kung Fu Society and was awarded Instructor of the Year in 1991. In a three-year period he has won seven Florida State Championships in Forms, Weapons and Fighting. He has been featured on the TV show, Masters of the Martial Arts and has taught seminars all over the U.S. and Canada.
