Santa Fe Ski Team’s Ski & Sports Swap, Oct. 14-16 | - October 10, 2011

"...time to start thinking about the upcoming ski season..."

The recent mountain snowfall is a sure sign that it's time to start thinking about the upcoming ski season. And that may mean replacing your old skis with a better pair, picking out  a new parka or picking up a new set of boots.

The Santa Fe Ski Team hosts the annual Ski & Sports Swap on October 14, 15 and 16 at the Chavez Community Center, 3221 Rodeo Rd.  Here, you'll find affordable new and used ski and snowboarding gear in junior and adult sizes, along with outer wear and accessories.

Shoppers at the ski swap can sell their used alpine and cross country skis and snowboards, poles and boots and buy new and used equipment without breaking their banks. Jackets, hats, gloves, goggles and other gear also is available. There's a huge selection and the earlier shoppers will, of course, find the best bargains.

The sale runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday night, followed by a Silent Auction at 8 p.m. The ski swap continues from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Admission Friday night is $25 plus $5 for each additional person in your group. On Saturday, admission is $2, and all children under 48 inches get in free. On Sunday, admission is free.

Bring your retired gear and clothing to the Equipment Check In on Friday, October 14 from noon to 6 p.m.  The cost is $2 to enter each item in the ski swap. You can pick up whatever items did not sell from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Any items not picked up will be considered a donation to the Santa Fe Ski Team.

A 20 percent commission of all items sold will benefit the Santa Fe Ski Team, established more than half a century ago to provide a solid training program and a philosophy for aspiring young racers to become World Cup ski racers.

Many Santa Fe Ski Team members have gone on to race on college teams and have enjoyed successful careers as alpine skiers over the decades. Hubert Seigmann, the team's head coach, is a world-class racer and coach who has coached and competed in Europe and the U.S. for more than 30 years.
