Santa Fe Community College’s Early Childhood Development Center will officially become “Kids Campus at SFCC” on Tuesday, May 8. The name change will be celebrated with an open house that day from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. A new web site will be launched at the same time.
“We believe our new name -- Kids Campus -- better reflects the purpose of the center and is friendlier for kids and their families,” SFCC President Sheila Ortego said. “Just as SFCC prepares its students for successful careers or higher education, Kids Campus prepares the little ones for a lifetime of successful learning.”
Kids Campus is conveniently located in a spacious separate building on the south end of the SFCC campus at 6401 Richards Avenue, near Rancho Viejo and other adjacent neighborhoods.
Kids Campus supports children’s early growth through age-appropriate learning centers and playgrounds. The teaching staff, all of whom are required to hold at the minimum an associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, has the education, knowledge and commitment necessary to promote children’s learning and development and to support families’ diverse needs and interests.
Kids Campus is accredited by the National Association for the Education of YoungChildren (NAEYC). Many of the policies and practices are derived from NAEYC Program Standards. Because of this accreditation, Kids Campus maintains a five-star license (the highest possible) with the state Children, Youth and Families Department.
Kids Campus staff coordinates with faculty from SFCC’s Teacher Education Program to stay informed about best practices in early childhood development and education.
Kids Campus serves children 8 weeks to 5 years old. Parents or guardians do not need to be associated with the college to enroll their children in Kids Campus. More information about Kids Campus is available at www.sfcc.edu. The new website, which becomes live May 8, will be at www.kidscampus.sfcc.edu.
