Old Man Gloom says take a cab ride home from the festivities Friday, Aug. 29.  It is only $1 to take a cab home on the night of Zozobra's 90th annual burn.  "Enjoy the festivities but Think SaFe," said a Thursday media release by the City of Santa .

"Rid yourself of all the year's worries and troubles, send them up in smoke with Zozobra and then save yourself from any more worries by taking a cab ride home instead of drinking and driving," said Lupe Sanchez, DWI Program Coordinator.

The reduced rate rides start at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and end at 2:30 a.m. early Saturday morning.  The normal rate for the subsidized ride home is $5 per cab for 1-2 riders and $10 per cab for 3 or more. The cabs run from 5:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights.  The DWI Program offsets the first $25 of these cab rides home.  Riders are responsible for the portion of the fare over $25.

Law enforcement agencies in Santa Fe County are conducting several checkpoints this week and next.

To take a cab ride home from a bar or party Friday night call (505) 438-0000.
