Presbyterian Medical Services (PMS) is excited to welcome Richard D. Kenney, M.D., to PMS - Santa Fe Community Guidance Center. Dr. Kenney has joined the team to open a new pediatric clinic at the center offering healthcare services to patients 19 years of age and younger.

Steve Hansen, President of PMS, explained the reasons for these expanded services. "PMS - Santa Fe Community Guidance Center has been providing behavioral health services to a large number of children in Santa Fe since our merger with Su Vida in January, 2008. It's exciting that we are now in a position to meet their primary health care needs at the same facility with Dr. Kenney on board."

After graduation from Georgetown Medical School, Dr. Kenney completed pediatric training at Tufts - New England Medical Center and an Adolescent Medicine fellowship at Los Angeles Children's Hospital. During his extensive career he educated many young physicians and other healthcare personnel.

Asked why he decided to become a pediatrician, Dr. Kenney replied, "I always enjoyed working with children and adolescents. I was raised in a large family with a strong sense of altruism. Being a change agent in young people's lives and, hopefully, in their parent's, has been an energy source for me as has the intellectual challenge of medicine. Let's face it - kids brighten everyone's day. Their sense of discovery and unadorned candor is a balm to the soul."

Dr. Kenney joined PMS largely because of its mission to help underserved populations, a group on which he has focused his professional career. "The prospect of establishing a new clinic intrigues me as well as the opportunity to practice what I preached for years about pediatric healthcare."

As with all PMS federally qualified health centers, Santa Fe Community Guidance Center is Joint Commission accredited and does not turn away any patient due to an inability to pay. Payment options include Medicare, Medicaid, Healthier Kids Fund and most private insurance. For those who are uninsured, payment is on a sliding fee scale based on income. SFCGC is also a New Mexico SALUD! provider.

In addition to pediatric and adult primary health care services, SFCGC offers a wide variety of behavioral health (mental health) services. The center is located at 2960 Rodeo Park Drive West, in the southern section of Santa Fe.
