The Northern New Mexico College Board of Regents and Northern President Nancy “Rusty” Barceló have signed a new five-year contract.

On the renewal of Barceló’s contract, Board of Regents President Michael Branch said, “The board reviewed the performance of President Barceló in recent months, and we were elated to see the stability that she has been able to bring to Northern. We believed that we needed to extend her contract in order to continue this trend. We were very fortunate to be able to bring someone of her caliber from a national institution of higher learning, and she has been able to aim the college toward a higher level academically and a better place in terms of the stability and strength of the college’s administration and financial procedures.”

Dr. Barceló said, “I’m really pleased that the board has confidence in the work we have accomplished. This was important to me. I have enjoyed working with the board and look forward to working with them in the future. In the time I have been here I have been pleased with the progress. This new contract provides the opportunity to continue projects we have initiated this past year, such as institutional advancement. I am committed to working with students, faculty, and staff to fulfill the mission of the College and meet the educational, economic, and cultural needs of the valley.”
