Sense of the Center Design Contest

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS AND RECENT GRADUATES OF NEW MEXICO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES TO WIN $3000 FOR CREATING DISTRICT IDENTITY  DESIGN FOR ST. MICHAEL’S DRIVE IN SANTA FE.

The first in a series of outcome projects related to the RE:MIKE effort, with the goal of beginning to represent tangible vitalization for St. Michael’s Drive and the surrounding corridor.

Who is Eligible?

Students at New Mexico Colleges and Universities as well as recent graduates (For the purposes of the contest, recent graduates shall mean individuals or design teams who have graduated from a New Mexico college or university within the past two years and who currently live and work in New Mexico.) 3 to 5 Finalists will be chosen and awarded $500 to complete a final presentation for their pitch to win the $2500 grand prize and have their design implemented. There is NO entry fee.

What’s the Story?

St. Michael’s Drive and the surrounding neighborhoods comprise a “Central Santa Fe” area that is rich with history, residential neighborhoods and important small businesses and organizations. The goal of this contest is to bring district identity to life through a cohesive design sensibility that will convey a powerful sense of place along St. Michael’s Drive. For the purposes of this contest, the design should primarily concern the area between Christus St. Vincent’s Hospital and the intersection of St. Michael’s Drive and Cerrillos Road.

The design should be impactful to both pedestrians/bicyclists and automobile passengers. It should be noticeable to RailRunner passengers. Business owners, residents and district constituents should be able to associate a sense of pride and accurate representation in the design.
