The records indicated Tuesday's District 2AAA volleyball tournament match was a win-or-go-home proposition.
Just don't tell that to Brian Gurule or Seatha Chavez.
"I'm sorry, but I believe all six teams (in 2AAA) deserve to go to state," said Gurule, the head coach at West Las Vegas after his sixth-seeded Lady Dons pulled out an emotional 24-26, 25-23, 26-24, 25-20 opening-round win over No. 5 Santa Fe Indian School at Francis L. Abeyta Memorial Gymnasium.
"We are the strongest district from top to bottom. I say bring any team over here and let's see how they handle all of us."
His counterpart, Lady Braves head coach Seatha Chavez, feels the entire district should be invited to play in the 12-team Class AAA State Tournament, which takes five district champions and seven at-large teams.
