Kiwanis award grants from Zozobra profits

More than a dozen Santa Fe nonprofits received a little cheer courtesy of Old Man Gloom this year. Funds raised by the Santa Fe Downtown Kiwanis Foundation from the annual burning of Zozobra (aka Gloom) each September benefit a variety of charities.

This year, the club is handing out nearly $72,000 through three programs. Local students were awarded $22,000 in college scholarships. About $12,000 was awarded to Key Clubs at local high schools that emphasize community service. Almost $38,000 in community grants went to the following organizations:
