Santa Fe Community College will host free income tax preparation assistance beginning Friday, February 1. The eighth annual free tax preparation service, offered in partnership with the AARP Foundation’s Tax‐Aide, has a new campus location this year.

It will be located in the West Wing atrium at SFCC, 6401 Richards Ave. Signs will direct tax filers to the new location. Beginning February 1, Tax-Aide is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Assistance will be available six days a week through April 15, except when the college is closed (March 18-24 for spring break and March 29-‐31 for spring holiday).

In addition to providing the location for tax preparation services, 15 SFCC students who weretrained specially for the service will be among the 80 volunteers available to assist anyone in filing their taxes.

Last year, the service helped 8,211 taxpayers gain a total of $9.46 million in tax refunds. Exceptions for help in preparation may be made if the client has unusually complicated tax circumstances. The service is not available to small business owners who have employees or depreciation.

Tax‐Aide District Coordinator Pete Doniger asked that filers wait for all of the tax forms they usually receive before coming in for help. Investment statements are expected to be late because of the lastminute passage of bills by Congress related to how tax rates are determined.

If you’d like your taxes prepared by Tax-‐Aide at SFCC, bring all of the information and documents you would normally need for taxes. You will also need a photo ID and Social Security cards for yourself and your children, a list of expenses if you paid for child care, college or vocational training, and a list of medical expenses and charity donations. Also, bring a blank check to receive a direct deposit into your account of your refund with no fees.

People will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.
