Fort Marcy Recreation Complex offers a variety of new activities that include Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Modern Dance and Ultimate Frisbee.

Tai Chi and Kung Fu Classes

Tai Chi, internal style, is but one of slow flowing movements with health benefits; it increases strength and range of motion of joints, greater leg and knee strength, flexibility, reduced stress and improved immune function.

Tien Lung (White Dragon) Kung Fu, Northern Shaolin Five Animal Kung Fu: Techniques are derived from the five animals. Snake: suppleness, speed and accuracy. Tiger: tenacity and power. Crane: grace and self-control. Leopard: speed and strength. and Dragon: knowledge and power.

Fukien Shaolin Tai Chi:     Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7-8 a.m.  (Instructor, Daniel Persona) 

Tien Lung Kung Fu:          Wednesdays, 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Fridays, 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Saturdays, 12– 1:30 p.m. (Instructor, Niels Van Hecke)

Modern Dance Class

Have you ever felt curious about how a dancer trains to become strong and flexible? Come join veteran Santa Fe dancer/ choreographer Julie Brette Adams in a weekly dance class where you will have fun developing strength, coordination, stamina and flexibility! This is a multi-level class that will inspire those new to dance and satisfy those who have training. We follow a traditional modern dance class format with an extensive warm-up, deep stretch and choreographed combinations to a rich variety of music. Wear workout clothes that are comfortable, no shoes needed. Classes are open to all ages and skill levels and cost $5.00 drop-in-rate.
