Film Education at Santa Fe Independent Film Festival

As Santa Fe welcomes October, it also receives its biggest year thus far in independent cinema as The Fifth Annual Santa Fe Independent Film Festival returns with over 100 screenings and events fit for the cinephiles across town and beyond.

The festival begins on Wednesday October 16th, 2013 and stretches until Sunday October 20th, 2013; a week filled with informative workshops and panels lead by experienced filmmakers and writers, and non-stop screenings of shorts and features alike, spanning across multiple genres. SFIFF offers multiply interactive and informative panels, workshops, master discussion, and screenings that offer diverse and rare opportunities for education on film. 

Santa Fe Independent Film Festival is honored to have the great cinematographer Lee Daniel as the 2013 Visiting Artist. Lee Daniel is the acclaimed cinematographer of Dazed and Confused, Before Sunset, and Slacker. He will be hosting a Master Discussion about the craft of cinematography on Sunday October 20th at 12pm at the Center for Contemporary Arts.

SFIFF is very excited for a very special Master Discussion with George RR Martin the acclaimed author of the Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted into the HBO Game of Thones series. Listing to the renowned writer discuss the art of writing with Kirk Ellis (John Adams, Into the West) at the newly restored Jean Cocteau Cinema. Listen to two master authors discuss the craft of writing and adaptation for the screen. 

An educative writing lab with Blacula's writer Joan Torres, John Nichols of Milagro Beanfield War and television writer Ron Bloomberg (Home Improvement, Three's Company, All in the Family) all get together to discuss the art of writing and the different stages that one goes through. This writing lab will be held at the CCA Studio on Friday October 18, 2013 at 2:00 PM, seating limited tickets on sale now. Following immediately after, a production panel features works class producers like David Sontag, an award-winning writer and producer that's written for Columbia Pictures, MGM, and Hollywood Pictures among others, producing shows such as A Christmas Memory and Shindig, and David Paulsen, writer and producer of beloved television shows Dallas and Dynasty. These veteran producers of television and film join the hottest independent film producers in a discussion about the future of American cinema. The Santa Fe Independent Film Festival is also honored to present I Am Divine, the documentary by Jeffrey Schwarz that hands the audience the definitive biographical portrait of Harris Glenn Milstead, a.k.a. Divine, which honors him in the way he always craved -- as a serious artist and immortal star after being John Waters' muse and the adored international drag icon. The screening will be held on Friday October 18th, 2013 at 5:30 PM at the CCA Main Theater. www.ticketssantafe.org or call 505.988.1234   

In honor of this screening and fans of the man who started it all, John Waters himself will be performing his one man show "This Filthy World" LIVE at the Lensic on Saturday Oct. 19, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Santa Fe Independent Film Festival is also offering the opportunity to have an intimate dinner with John Waters before his show. Seating is limited, $500 includes intimate dinner and front row ticket to This Filthy World. Tickets are on sale now the Lensic Box Office

SFIFF proudly presents the world premiere of Alexis Krasilovsky's Pastriology on Thursday October 17, 2013 7:00 pm at The Screen at Santa Fe University of Art and Design. Pastriology is a documentary that was in the making for five years and traveled around twelve countries focusing on the topic of food and human's gluttonous ways to the calamity of world hunger. Following this screening, a Film & Food Celebration will be held in the same location for a special reception to celebrate Santa Fe's local, fresh cuisine.
