Trying to decide where to go on a dream vacation? Be a visitor in your own back yard this summer! Santa Fe’s very own contemporary art fair, ART Santa Fe, is celebrating 12 years and will once again bring the glamour and excitement of gallery hopping around the world right to your doorstep.
On the weekend of July 12-15, Santa Feans will have the opportunity to join out-of-town visitors at ART Santa Fe, where galleries from three continents will exhibit cutting-edge art from a wide variety of cultures. Exhibitors from as far away as Afghanistan, Kathmandu and Japan will occupy booths next to galleries of the Americas, from Toronto in the north to Buenos Aires in the south. The fair’s highly regardeded “How Things Are Made” returns this year with an intriguing interactive experience exploring the process of Korean handmade paper making (Han-Ji).
ART Santa Fe 2012 will take place in the city’s state-of-the-art convention center, in the heart of downtown only two blocks from the Plaza. The fair will open with the Vernissage, a gala champagne preview for collectors, on Thursday, July 12 at 8: p.m. The fair runs Friday through Sunday, from 11a.m to 6 p.m each day. Daily tickets are $10, making this an affordable, don’t-miss occasion for contemporary art lovers from near and far.
So what does contemporary art from Afghanistan, Japan or Bolivia look like? This is your chance to find out without leaving the city limits. In a city famous for its art scene, ART Santa Fe has become one of the most important events of the year, bridging cultures and giving Santa Feans a peek at the newest in contemporary art.
