"Merrigan will highlight the USDA’s investments and job creation efforts in rural America"
Agriculture Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan will visit Las Cruces, New Mexico March 26 to discuss the administration’s strategy to strengthen the U.S. economy, put more people back to work and put more money in the pockets of working Americans. She will also highlight the USDA’s rural job creation efforts and local and regional food systems in New Mexico that are increasing economic opportunities for local farmers and ranchers while expanding access to healthy food.
Merrigan will bring USDA’s college tour to New Mexico State University and discuss USDA’s Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food initiative and efforts to create new opportunities for farmers, ranchers and communities by building local and regional food systems. She will also discuss the Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food Compass, the new digital “catalogue” of USDA’s work in local and regional food systems. Later in the day, Merrigan will meet with local community and business leaders at Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico to discuss economic development in rural America.
