July 30th and 31st, 2011
In the historic Santa Fe Plaza
The rich Hispanic culture of New Mexico will be celebrated at the 60th Annual Traditional Spanish Market, Saturday and Sunday, July 30th & 31th, 2011 on the Santa Fe Plaza. A popular event for residents and visitors alike, Spanish Market features handmade traditional art from over 300 local Hispanic artists, as well as on-going live music and dance, art demonstrations and regional foods. Spanish Market is produced by the Spanish Colonial Arts Society and is the oldest and largest juried Spanish Market in the United States.
A separate youth exhibition area also features the work of many young artists. The Market provides a unique opportunity for visitors to enjoy New Mexico's vibrant Hispanic culture, both past and present. Admission is free to the public. This major event attracts between 40,000 - 60,000 visitors each year. The artist's exhibition and sale of their art gives visitors a rare opportunity to meet some of the best Hispanic artists working in the country today.
This year, the Market is introducing a new category, Innovations within Tradition. The category uses the traditional methods, materials, and iconography but allows the artists to use their creativity in new and exciting ways. This new art will bring many dynamic new pieces into Market.
