"More than 200 tourism professionals from all over New Mexico are expected to attend"
The Tourism Association of New Mexico, in partnership with the New Mexico Tourism Department, is pleased to announce open registration is still available for the 2012 New Mexico Governor’s Conference on Tourism, to be held May 14-16 at the Taos Convention Center. More than 200 tourism professionals from all over New Mexico are expected to attend.
The arrival day for the conference is Monday, May 14, with tradeshow set up and delegate registration. Many area tours are available to enjoy free that afternoon, including guided tours of the Taos historic district and plaza, museums and Taos Pueblo.
Education sessions open Tuesday, May 15 at 9:30 AM, starting with keynote speaker David Houle, a world renowned futurist offering his perspective on ‘Leading and Succeeding in the Transformation Decade.” His knowledge of technologies and their implications on the way we will live and work will be addressed in his varied and upbeat presentation. Houle spent more than 20 years in media and entertainment. He has worked at NBC, CBS and was part of the senior executive team that created and launched MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1 and CNN Headline News. He has won a number of awards, including two Emmys, the prestigious George Foster Peabody award and the Heartland award for “Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream”. He was also nominated for an Academy Award. In the last two years he has delivered keynotes on six continents and ten countries.
Other topics that day include a new perspective on economic development by Mark Lautman, and updates on the latest in SEO and Social Media by Katalin Cseke and Wendy Forbes. Don Gray of the New Mexico Film Office will close the day with tips on how to make your community "Film Friendly."
Wednesday’s program is headlined by the New Mexico Tourism Department, introducing its new ad agency, PR firm and website professionals, giving in-depth reports on the new summer advertising campaign and how communities can participate. The afternoon will feature Jeremy Sampson of Sustainable Travel International speaking on the ROI of Sustainability.

The conference will conclude with the Tourism Hall of Fame banquet on Wednesday, May 16, at the Sagebrush Conference Center, with a special performance by Robert Mirabal, famous Taos Pueblo musician and artist.
